Decisive Action Taken Against Baitullah Mehsud: Rehman Malik

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has claimed that India is interfering in Balochistan via Afghanistan by supplying weapons to local insurgents.Rehman, in an exclusive interview with French TV, also maintained that a “decisive action” is being taken against the chief of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Baitullah Mehsud.
Malik said that India is supplying weapons to terrorists and extremists in Balochistan via Afghanistan while terrorists in FATA also getting their ammunition supply via Afghanistan.
“For the first time Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has raised the issue of Indian interference in Balochistan before the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at Sharam-El-Sheikh, Egypt,” he said.
Malik said that Afghan President Hamid Karzai has accepted the Pakistan’s demand to close all kinds of terrorists training camps in his country being used to fuel insurgency in Pakistan.
“He has accepted that there are such sanctuaries in Afghanistan and ordered their closure. He has also assured us to deliberate on Pakistan’s request to handover Barahamdagh Bugti”.
Rehman told the TV that the ongoing military operation – dubbed as Rah-e-Nijat – against TTP commander Baitullah Mehsud would be decisive and “the government would not remain silent till the complete elimination of terrorists and extremists from country’s soil”.
“Our government is committed to flush out insurgency and such elements would be wiped out from Swat, Buner and Dir,” Rehman said.
To a question, he said the champion of democracy – the US – should immediately halt its drone strikes in Pakistani soil as these were not only according to him proved counterproductive but also hampering Pak Army’s effort to win war against insurgency.
