Islam is a religion of peace and amity
Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Islam is a religion of peace and amity and gives the message of tolerance and restraint. He said that Islam considers murder of an individual as the murder of entire humanity. He said that Gojra tragedy has tarnished the image of the country and had tolerance and restraint been exercised on this occasion instead of taking the law in the hands this sad incident could have been averted. He said that Ulema promote love and brotherhood in the society and they will have to play an effective role in the present situation. He said that deterrent punishment would be awarded to the persons found guilty in the light of enquiry report into Gojra tragedy. He said that misuse of loudspeakers will not be allowed.
He was addressing Ulema of various schools of thought belonging to district Toba Tek Singh at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here today. Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad, Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah Khan, Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa, Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi, Home Secretary, IG Police and senior officers were present on the occasion.
Chief Minister said that ulema and Mashaikh are playing a commendable role for the promotion of Islam and their responsibilities have increased in the present circumstances. He said that there is a need for sinking petty differences and forging unity for the progress and prosperity of the country. He said that Pakistan was achieved for the purpose of enabling the Muslims to lead their lives in the light of teachings of Islam while the followers of other religions could also have complete religious freedom and equal rights. He said that tolerance and restraint displayed by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in His practical life is an example for us. He said that had the law been allowed to take its course on the occasion of Gojra incident this tragedy could have been averted. He said that we should make sincere efforts to prevent such incidents in future which could bring a bad name to the country. He said that there is a need for promotion of peace and brotherhood in the society. He said that besides identifying innocent persons Ulema should also help the government in exposing the elements which disturbed law and order in Gojra. He said that those found responsible for this incident in the light of the enquiry report would be brought to justice. He appreciated the efforts of Ulema for maintenance of peace in Gojra.
The Ulema while expressing their views strongly condemned the Gojra incident and assured full cooperation to the government in exposing the elements involved in this incident. They expressed the determination that the same atmosphere of law and order and amity would be restored in Gojra which existed for the last 62 years. They also thanked the Chief Minister for inviting Ulema from Toba Tek Singh for gaining information about the situation.
