Aitzaz Ahsan Protests Against Lawyers’ Violence

LAHORE: Former President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said he will deem himself as suspended from the membership of Lahore High Court from now on.
He said he took this step in protest against the manhandling of journalists at the hands of lawyers at LHC Bar premises.
He urged Justice (rtd) Nasira Iqbal to take steps in this regard, adding he is wring a letter to her in this connection.
Aitzaz said he is 40-year member of LHC bar and started his practice from this bar, adding he cannot jettison the LHC membership, as he will not be able to practice law if he does so; however, he will refrain from using the Bar facilities as token of protest of violent behavior of the lawyers.
Paying tribute to media, he said the lawyers’ movement for the restoration of judiciary thrived mostly because of the journalists and cameramen, adding he is grieved on the unbecoming attitude of lawyers towards journalists who go around to perform their professional duties.
He said, ‘The cameramen, being maltreated by lawyers, were the ones who crossed miles with us with their cameras on their shoulders; they infused blood into the lawyers’ movement and energized it.
Earlier talking, Aitzaz demanded a befitting disciplinary action against lawyers involved the incident, until it happens, he will not employ the Bar facilities, adding, ‘The lawyers movement is non-violence one and anyone who sabotages it, is not among us.’
