• IDPs homecoming from July 13: PM

    ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said Thursday at least 1700 extremists have been killed in the ongoing operation.Addressing an emergency press briefing here, the PM said the emigration of the IDPs is temporary and he is thankful to those who extended support to them.The operation has caused damage to national economy to an extent, he said.The armed forces rendered great sacrifices for the nation, he added saying the government materialized the desires of Malakand people.The monuments would be built up for the martyred jawans and officers of the security forces during the operation, he announced.Hilal-e-Esaar would be given to the citizens who sacrificed for the IDPs, he said adding the army action cannot get along successfully without the involvement of the people.The PM Gilani said the war against extremists is our own war, adding Pak Army is still busy with the operation in some areas of Malakand and the Army will stay in the area.He said the extremists disgraced the Muslim shrines and slaughtered children; also, they challenged the writ of the government.The Prime Minister said the government will take action wherever the government’s writ is challenged.‘We want to see institutions strong and people supreme,’ he said.Special Support Group will work for the rehabilitation in sync with the government, he said adding the IDPs will start returning to their homes from July 13.The SSG will work out to finalize the roadmap for IDPs return, he added.Regarding a question on overnight promulgation of Presidential Ordinance which put an end to the people’s happiness by increasing back the petrol price, the PM was eloquent on his and party’s sacrifices for the judiciary, saying, ‘I was put behind bars for judiciary; we respect the decisions of judiciary.’The PM said he hoped that the SC will keep in view the supremacy of the parliament; however, the government will respect whatever, decision is passed by the apex court.He said he was the only politician who supported the National Judicial Policy.
